Vermillion Studios presents its Open Exhibition once again this year, with four painters in its studios offering a range of work involving Edinburgh architecture, photography and painting fusion, as well as sculptural, figurative and lyrical paintings.

Including the works of Glasgow School of Art graduate Christopher Ford, recent Edinburgh College of Art painting graduates Anna Geissler and Laura Delahunt and current Edinburgh College of Art painting student Darren Duddy.

There will be paintings available to purchase, as well as the artists onsite to talk with. All members of the public are welcome to attend this Open Exhibition event.

Over the past year I have worked on various different scales from tiny 10x10cm squares to much larger wall pieces. To continue and idea I had last year I would like to create 2 more large 9 bloack paintings similar to one I had displayed in a recent exhibition titled “Arthurs seat”. To create this painting I had tork on seperate squares and combine them in the end to show the final piece. Below is image of “Arthurs seat”.

As part of the ECA degree show its a good idea for exhibiting students to have postcards and business cards on offer for prospective buyers, galleries and those who may have an interest in you and your work. I took it upon myself to organise a group order with a company that were offering a great discount. Here are some examples of the business card front and back layout. The total number of individual orders was well over 30 and took a lot of advanced planning and organisation.

After a recent exhibition at the totalkunst gallery I made an artist book to showcase the work and formalise it for my final year assessments, it actually hasn’t arrived yet but I am really pleased with the results on the screen so far. As well as images of the work I have written a little bit about each piece, its origin, inspiration and creation. Link below.

Another book I made was to collate together a series of projection work I made over several months within ECA. The projections came from pinhole photographs from my “100 days through a pinhole” project and it was interesting to see them on a larger scale. Link below.

Yesterday I ventured up to the Highlands with a car full of pinhole cameras, full of expectations as to what a wonderful and adventurous day it would be. As it turns out I was right. These final photographs will become pieces for my degree show in June and I sadly have to wait till tomorrow before I can discover the results. I’m never looking to capture anything specific in a pinhole photograph because it seems that what you don’t see in these images becomes a little more endearing that what you do. Here are a few documentation images of the places I visited and the cameras I used.
